Secret Dishes 3In 2021, Hannah represented Sunderland as one of twenty artists invited to work on a nationwide project. Collaborating with the Sunderland Empire and carers' charity More Than Grandparents, she led a group of children to create art for a cookbook, Secret Dishes From Around The World 3 by Bounceback Food; a community cookery school in Manchester.
This cookbook features recipes from across the globe, and the Sunderland team represented Malaysia. It was up to Hannah to research the culture. |
Hannah shared some facts about Malaysia with the children at More Than Grandparents and asked them to make art expressing what was beautiful about the country. They submitted their designs anonymously, and Hannah judged one prize winner.
Every art entry, which included pictures of lizards, butterflies, elephants, and flowers, was collaged by Hannah into a Mah Meri tribal mask. The Mah Meri people are indigenous to Malaysia and are known for their beautiful wood carving. Hannah wished to pay homage to their artistic abilities and created a vibrant digital design to illustrate the cookbook. |
Hannah took an active role in the larger team and participated in Zoom calls to assist with the layout design alongside project leaders across England, Scotland, and Wales.
After publication on the 1st, Bounceback Food organised a UK book signing tour which ran throughout October, on which Hannah appeared to network and sign books and prints. |
