This handsome vessel tells the remarkable story of a wine and spirits merchant named John Augustus Noel. He was born in 1811, Kingston, Jamaica, of European and African descent. Noel emigrated to England, where he progressed from an 1855 pub landlord to an 1858 brewer. He lived with his wife and children in 28 Commercial Road, South Shields, and later moved to 13 Portland Street, Newcastle, before Noel left the trade by 1871. View our 1850s Noel flagon.
